Learn More About Alcoholism Center for Women
The Alcoholism Center for Women (ACW) is incorporated as a 501(c) 3 organization with the mission to provide a safe and supportive sober environment in which women and youth can repair, restore and reclaim their lives.
We help to strengthen families and communities by teaching them to make new choices for positive futures.
Established in 1974 to address the special needs of women affected by alcohol and other drug abuse.
ACW is now licensed and certified by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Program to provide a variety of residential and outpatient rehabilitation programs for women and youth supported by Medi-Cal, General Relief (GR), the Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.
Located at 1147 S. Alvarado in the Pico-Union/Westlake District of the City of Los Angeles.
ACW is the only substance abuse service agency providing a continuum of care exclusively to underserved women in Los Angeles County Service Planning Area (SPA) 4.
Its prevention, outpatient, and residential programs, staffed by California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources certified personnel, enable women to learn parenting and independent living skills.
They receive substance abuse instruction, STD and HIV/AIDS risk reduction counselling, and emotional and psychological support.
The Alcoholism Center for Women (ACW) is a safe haven and a beacon of hope for the community and for women and youth we serve. Homeless, addicted women walk right through our doors asking for help.
Girls and boys we serve in our after school program learn skills at ACW to be successful.
We are their second home, they often do not want to leave.
ACW is a 501 (c) (3) public charity, founded in 1974, as the first residential program on the West Coast to offer services specifically for women.
To fulfill our mission, ACW offers a continuum of gender responsive trauma informed programs with the goal that each woman or girl we serve will maintain abstinence, and restructure their lifestyle to include prevention and recovery support systems.
Our programs include a 32-bed residential treatment program, a life affirming out-participant program.
We have dynamic prevention programs such as New Choices for Positive Futures After School Program, Parenting Classes in Spanish for the local predominant immigrant Salvadorian community, Tobacco Prevention and Girls Chat.
