Learn More About Alcoholism Center for Women
Established in 1974 to address the special needs of women affected by alcohol and other drug abuse, The Alcoholism Center For Women, Inc. (ACW) was the first female residential drug/alcohol center on the West Coast. We have a long and powerful history of helping women obtain and maintain sobriety.
ACW is a non-profit incorporated 501 (c) 3 organization that is State of California Department of Health Care Services’ licensed and certified.
ACW offers Substance Abuse Residential, Intensive Outpatient Treatment, and Outpatient Counseling Programs. ACW has international accreditation from Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF accreditation is a vigorous endeavor to provide services and operate a nonprofit at the highest level for behavioral healthcare organizations.
ACW staff and board care that much about our clients and the services to put the time and effort in to obtain and maintain CARF accreditation. Our hope is that our hard work and dedication to excellence will inspire our clients to put the same level of dedication into their own sobriety journey.
ACW’s mission is to empower women to make new choices for positive futures. To fulfill our mission, ACW offers a continuum of gender responsive trauma informed programs with the goal that each woman we serve will maintain abstinence, and restructure their lifestyle to include prevention and recovery support systems.
Our 32-bed substance abuse Residential Treatment program and our life affirming Outpatient programs utilize evidence-based curriculum and offer individual and group counseling sessions, family therapy, domestic violence/trauma therapy, nutrition counseling, crisis intervention and case management linkage to needed health and mental health services as well as linkage to other community based services.
Each client is assigned a substance abuse counselor who works to develop the client’s own unique treatment plan and roadmap to long term recovery. Our 32-bed residential treatment program offers a 24-hour, 7-day a week set schedule based on a methodology that offers each woman a prescribed process allowing her to move gradually from a structured to a self-determined program.
Our Outpatient Programs, Intensive Outpatient Program and Outpatient Counseling, are offered during the day or at night to accommodate the individual’s family and/or work responsibilities and are offered in English and Spanish. Clients step up or down to different levels of program intensity based on their individual situation and treatment need.
Our facilities are two turn-of-the-century homes, that are designated as historic city monuments, have recently been restored and painted period appropriate colors through a generous grant from the McMillen Family Foundation. Our buildings are beautiful and act as a beacon of hope for the women and community we reside in and serve
